Day 3 Malagos Garden Resort (4/6/2008, part 2 of 3)

A few mins from Philippine Eagle Center is the Malagos Garden Resort. Entrance fee is P125 for adults and P100 for kids/senior (includes the bird show).

Me and my nieces Bea and Isha... Pwede ng model si Bea, galing magpose e. Si Isha inaantok pa. :)

Inside is a small Butterfly sanctuary. We saw a lot of butterflies fluttering around but it was difficult to get a good shot. There is also a display of different framed butterflies in a spacious kubo.

Below are some snapshots of the flowers you can find in the resort.

Red, orange and white flowers... just a few of the flower varieties you can see in Malagos garden resort

I am not familiar with the different varieties of flowers, but I do appreciate looking at them.

Another flower variety of white and violet colors...

It's time to watch the famous Interactive Malagos bird show (scheduled on sundays 10:30am). Before the show starts, some of the featured animals in the resort are paraded in front of the audience.

The host of the show is Dr. Roberto Puentespina (he probably owns the Puentespina Orchid Garden across Malagos). The show lasts for around an hour. The birds are well-trained and are made to do amusing stunts. One is a courtship between two birds, wherein a male bird brings gifts to his love which were initially rejected but little by little is accepted by the female bird. Until in the end when he sends her a beautiful flower did he get invited inside her nest. Another is done by a cuckatoo named Leila who rides a scooter. The birds and the host/staff have good team work and coordination. Another entertaining stunt is when Leila, picks up trash and throws them according to the right trash can, whether biodegradeable or not. There is also a basketball competition between two parrots, who are being cheered by the crowd. The louder the cheer, the faster they shoot. It was really fascinating.

I have shot some short clips during the show but this video from youtube (a broadcast from GMA) has a better view (although this was shot i think in Parks and Wildlife in QC and not in Davao):

Malagos Interactive Bird Show

I am really impressed with this show. It can be a world class attraction in itself. I have seen a similar show in a US theme park before, and I didn't know we had one here in the Philippines. This one is even better as the stunts the birds did were much more entertaining and complex. I hope they get to have more recognition and exposure in order to reach a wider audience. This is definitely a must-see in Davao.
